Management of Critical Source Areas

Critical source areas (CSAs) need to be managed effectively using various means.

Critical source areas (CSAs) are areas that have high connectivity to the drainage network and are at high risk of impacting a water body. These are often low-lying parts of farms where runoff accumulates in high concentration. Runoff from these areas carry sediment and nutrients to rivers and streams. EPA PIP maps should be used to help determine where best to site this measure along with slope of field etc.
Funded is €500/ha/yr. Min area: 0.2ha. Max of 3ha.
