A magnificent model depicting good and poor farm practice at either side of a river, was the star attraction of our show at the National Ploughing Championships 2024.
The model, which had been commissioned by the Farming for Water team, illustrates the kind of differences that small measures on farmland can make towards maintaining and improving water quality in our rivers and lakes. The model needs little explaining, however, there was tremendous engagement from young and old alike as they pored over the 3D creation and discussed the various aspects highlighted.
It was very heartening to see how so many young people recognised poor quality farming on the model and were able to outline how these practices can be significantly improved through the implementation of simple measures. This is the essence of the farming for Water EIP where over forty such measures can be incorporated to help improve water quality.
The model will be available to view at many farm walks and Co-Op events in the coming weeks and months. Check it out if it is coming to a location close to you.
