River crossings by animals and farm vehicles can deliver sediment and pollutants to the river, particularly where the crossing is part of a farm roadway. Replacing a river crossing with an appropriately designed bridge will have a positive impact on the river. The Water EIP can provide grant funding towards the cost of bridge design, planning and installation. The bridge should be fit for purpose and built using materials that will not themselves result in pollution (timber, pre-cast concrete, steel etc.) and be an appropriate width for their use, e.g., cattle, quad crossing etc. The use of clear-span bridges is preferable as they eliminate any potential interference with the riverbed.
Funded is 50% of cost of bridge installation up to a max of €5000 per applicant.
