The Farming for Water EIP had a very strong presence at the National Ploughing Championships 2025 in Screggan, County Offaly in September. Located in the Teagasc area, Farming for Water team members were inundated with requests for information from members of the farming community, but also from interested members of the public who view water quality in our rivers and lakes as being of paramount importance.
Project Lead, Mairead Whitty was in attendance as was Deputy Project Lead, Joan Martin, while the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) Director, Anthony Coleman was also present. And, visiting our stand on the Thursday of the event were two media team members from Euronews TV who were filming for the very popular and renowned The Road to Green programme. This programme was repeated on a number of occasions and has been translated into 13 languages, and broadcast across their network of 150 million viewers.

We had our Good Farm Practice/Poor Farm Practice model on display at the NPC and it proved to be very popular with young and old like getting a real visual for what the Farming for Water project is all about. Team members talked visitors through the model and there were plenty of questions and observations regarding the concept.

This year again, Project Lead Mairead Whitty participated in a water quality discussion on Agriland’s live broadcasts which have been a feature of the National Ploughing Championships for a number of years now. The discussion centred around what farmers can do to help improve and maintain water quality and what resources are available to them to help achieve this.
